The year is 2024 the united states has withdrawn from Afghanistan leaving the war torn nation in the grip of the Taliban a band of Islamic fundamentalists the world has moved on to other hot spots with the great powers focused on other hot spots around the globe but those in Afghanistan have not forgotten or forgiven the great powers particularly the twin Satans of the USA and Russia who had fought proxy wars on Afghan soil for over four decades killing generations of families and engendering a legacy of bitterness and hatred now armed with uniforms and equipment abandoned by the united states Afghan becomes a first rate military training camp with the world’s militaries and intelligence services occupied elsewhere the Taliban, Isis and other Islamic factions have slipped sleeper cells of terrorists throughout the world shortly into the year those fanatics strike gunning down innocent civilians at theaters and concerts knife attacks on subways car bombs killing national and regional leaders and the world realizes that the global war on terror is not finished setting aside their differences the intelligence agencies of the great powers begin gathering intel on the Afghanistan and what they find raises even greater concerns then the recent terrorist attacks the Afghan government is on the path to enriched uranium bent on becoming a nuclear power like neighboring Iran the intelligence agencies act quickly assembling a combined military strike force in Uzbekistan just north of the Afghan border

THE SETTING

Kaldar is a small war torn district in the northern part of Balkh province Afghanistan the northern and the eastern border of the district is the large amu Darya river north of the river is Uzbekistan a former republic of the soviet union that maintains close ties to Russia after years of internecine fighting with both the soviets and Americans gone after decades the natives of Kaldar enjoy a tenuous domestic peace in the Balkh province and across the river in Uzbekistan asking only to live their lives without outside interference however that very remoteness has made it the perfect place to conduct the government s clandestine activities on the north side of the amu Darya river the Russian federation provides a base for the strike force to launch into Afghanistan to terminate the government s uranium enrichment efforts
